Holly Lesnick, owner/director is an early childhood specialist at Grow and Sing Studios. Lesnick, along with her staff of several Licensed Kindermusik Educators, teaches Kindermusik in ten locations around Central Florida. The Conductor Level Maestro award recognizes excellence in a fast growing program with the goal to bring music to as many children as possible.

“The Kindermusik Maestro has a mission: helping children become better learners and helping parents understand how to help them reach their highest potential,” said Michael Dougherty, CEO at Kindermusik International.

Grow and Sing Studios joins the elite company of the 50 top 1% world Maestros identified as the top Educators of the over 5,000 licensed educators in the world who teach Kindermusik’s music and movement curricula. Holly Lesnick began providing Kindermusik 10 years ago, and opened her own studio Grow and Sing Studios in June, 2005. Today Grow and Sing Studios teaches the learning program to over 400 families, along with many special events and birthday parties.

In the last year, the Grow and Sing Team has reached more and more families by offering a variety of class options, along with flexibility in payment. More and more locations are offered each year as well, to reach families who may not have had the opportunity in the past. Four more locations are set to open this year.

“Music is my passion. Family is my other one. This award means so much because it brings these two passions together in one magical classroom. I know Grow and Sing Studios is living its’ mission of Connecting Families through the Magic of Music”, said Lesnick.

The Maestro Program recognizes licensed Kindermusik educators who master one of three levels in early childhood development: fast-growing programs, outstanding community service, and teaching excellence.

Downtown Summer Classroom Details!

Hi everyone,

As we move into the HOTS months of Summer, we had to evaluate what would be best for our summer classes. The FUCO location classroom that we had been using is in an older portion of the campus, and the air just doesn’t work very well when it gets hot outside. It’s perfectly fine when its cool outside, but hot temps = hot classroom which isn’t good for dancing and moving about! :)

So.. we are taking a little move over to their main hall for summer and they are graciously letting us use their library! This is still on the same campus as before, just in a different building. It’s a WONDERFUL space, and we are really really grateful and excited for the permission to rent and use it!

It’s a VERY cool room, and we can adjust the air levels ourselves, so there is NO concern about it being too hot! Everyone will be quite comfortable. It’s a fully carpeted room as you can see below, and bigger than the other classroom.

I wanted to be sure to share this info with those who took classes downtown in the Spring session, as this could most definitely influence your decision to join us for Summer since it was starting to get hot in the other classroom towards the end of the session. :) Also, wanted to be sure those who are currently registered for summer know where you will be going!

We are VERY excited about this move for summer and we think you will be quite pleased! Because this classroom is bigger, we have decided to change the schedule a bit by removing the 1:30pm music class. The schedule can be viewed by clicking here. Downtown classes are listed as FUCO (First Unitarian Church of Orlando).

Maestro Award

We proudly received the following letter yesterday:

April 1, 2009

Dear Maestro,

Congratulations on earning Maestro status for the 2009-2010 license year, which begins today, April 1, 2009!  This recognition is for the educators who serve the most children, are the most masterful teachers, or distinguish themselves through outreach.  This is an “august” group – the best of the best.

This mission, that we collectively call Kindermusik, couldn’t possibly have the breadth of benefit for children without you.  I know you have made great sacrifices and applied liberal amounts of elbow grease to get to this level.  I appreciate you and your efforts and will do everything I can to help Kindermusik serve your continued success.

Thank you for all you do on behalf of music and children.

Most sincerely,

Michael G. Dougherty

Chairman & CEO

We are excited and ready for Summer. Registration is underway. Click here for the link to the Summer page on our website!

Parent Perspectives: Issues and Insights regarding your baby

Babies and Music

Musical awareness is observable very early in life. [Howard Gardner, educational theorist who developed the theory of Multiple Intelligences] states that it emerges the earliest of all the different kinds of intelligence. The Papouseks, highly respected developmental researchers from West Germany, report that infants as young as two months can match the pitch, intensity, and melodic contour of the mother’s songs, and at four months infants can match the rhythmic structures as well. These researchers feel that infants are even more predisposed to these aspects of music than to speech (Papousek, 1982).” —“Theories of Child Development and Musical Ability,” by Sally Rogers from Music and Child Development, ed. Franz L. Roehmann and Frank R. Wilson, pp. 2-3.

Your Baby’s Musical Life

You may have already noticed that your baby is listening attentively to music. He may react to different types of music in different ways. He may become alert, move excitedly, relax, or even doze off depending on the nature of the music. By filling the spaces of Baby’s day with music we are teaching him the many roles that music can play throughout his life. Music can help him relax, cope with feelings, celebrate, create, and express beyond verbal capabilities.

Musical Variety in

 Kindermusik Village

Kindermusik Village

introduces a great variety of music, representing diverse cultures, styles, and tonalities, as well as varied instrumentation and voice types. Cock-a-doodle-MOO! features Cantonese Lullaby, a soothing, traditional Chinese song; Hey Diddle Diddle, a simple, traditional English rhyme and song; Ritsch, Ratsch, a lively Swedish folk song, and Armenian Lullaby, a relaxing song in the minor mode. Not only will your baby enjoy reacting to these different styles of music emotionally and physically, but intellectually it is important that your baby experience this music. We tend to appreciate and enjoy listening to music that is familiar.By exposing your baby to a broad selection of music at an early age, you will help him have a rich “repertoire” of familiar sounds and styles that will make more music accessible and interesting to him throughout his life.

A Musical Treasure Hunt

Explore everyday objects with Baby to see what sounds they make when you strike them with a spoon or shake them. Does there seem to be an object or sound that Baby is particularly interested in or finds humorous? Did you find something that you never expected to be musical?

“Children must receive musical instruction as naturally as food, and with as much pleasure as they derive from a ball game… and this must happen from the beginning of their lives.” —Leonard Bernstein
